In my view, Sgt. James Doakes is a pain in the butt. Somehow, out of the police officers and personnel in the Miami Police Department, he focus all his hate on Dexter. He feels something is not right with the seemingly harmless lab geek.
As Dexter tries hard to hide his killer aura, James Doakes picks it up just right away. James notices that Dexter stares too long or looks at ease in a crime scene, and he is very vocal on the fact. Most times, he shouts at Dexter to do his job.
As a police officer, James Doakes is a good cop. But he is hasty and will often insists that he’s right when he suspects someone of a crime.
He was in the military before, he may have fought in a war or two and he may have been in Special Ops. As a soldier, he has killed a lot of people, and his killing instinct may be the reason why he picks up the bad vibes from Dexter.
