Dexter Novel To Show: Name Changes

by Dexter Fan on October 10, 2008

I’ll start to post some differences between Showtime’s Dexter TV Series and Randomhouse published Dexter novel-series written by Jeff Lindsey.

I’ll start with name changes. There are some name changes between the novels and the show. One big change is the name of the main antagonist. Tamiami Butcher/Slasher in the novels was renamed to Ice Truck Killer in the TV series. Unless you are familiar with Miami or live there, the word Tamiami wouldn’t mean anything. So to make it easy for the viewers to understand, they just called the suspect “Ice Truck Killer” based on the modus operandi of the killer freezing the body of his victims.

Other name changes have little impact to the show Like name changes for the supporting characters like Detective LaGuerta is named Migdia in the novel and Maria in the show. Sergeant Doakes’ first name is changed from Albert to James.
