In my view, Sgt. James Doakes is a pain in the butt. Somehow, out of the police officers and personnel in the Miami Police Department, he focus all his hate on Dexter. He feels something is not right with the seemingly harmless lab geek.
As Dexter tries hard to hide his killer aura, James Doakes picks it up just right away. James notices that Dexter stares too long or looks at ease in a crime scene, and he is very vocal on the fact. Most times, he shouts at Dexter to do his job.
As a police officer, James Doakes is a good cop. But he is hasty and will often insists that he’s right when he suspects someone of a crime.
He was in the military before, he may have fought in a war or two and he may have been in Special Ops. As a soldier, he has killed a lot of people, and his killing instinct may be the reason why he picks up the bad vibes from Dexter.

Debra “Deb” Morgan is Dexter’s foster sister and daughter. Although she’s loud and foul-mouthed, she is a good person and smart enough to be a great police officer. Although at times, she has little faith in herself, so she comes to Dexter for advice and some insight on cases that they are working on. Deborah works hard to prevent other’s from seeing how vulnerable she is, while Dexter tries to prevent them from seeing how vulnerable he’s not. While she can’t stand up for herself against her boss Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta, she is willing to stand up for her brother or for anyone being unjustly treated.
In the course of Season 1, Debra falls in love with Rudy Cooper, aka Brian Moser, who unknowning to her was the Ice truck Killer. Rudy kidnapped Debra towards the end of the season so he and Dexter could hand-in-hand share killing her. Debra was rescued by Dexter in the end, but was severly affected by the incident and in turn cause her to lose even more confidence to the point of almost mental breakdown. She lived with Dexter while she recovers.
In Season 2, Debra life almost spun out of control but eventually recovers when she met FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy. Because of her previous experience, Lundy assigned her as a key member of the Police Task Force to find the Bay Harbor Butcher. Besides the professional relationship, a romance between them brewed. He was capable, calm and much older than Deb. Something that is perfect for her chaotic nature. It quickly became evident that although she cared for Lundy, their relationship was due to the fact that he was the father figure she never had.
