As the saying goes “Home is a castle.” But for Dexter his home is his vault hiding many of his secrets. In a Miami apartment, there won’t be much places to hide his secrets o any evidence of what he does in his spare time. There were a few people who lived (Debra, his sister) or even visited (Rita or Lila) but none of them discovered anything.
Behind the shell of his air conditioning unit is where Dexter keeps his trophies. He collects microscope slides containing the blood from his victims. He stores this in a small wooden box that fits cozily on the air conditioning duct that blows the cold air out. This place is perfect to keep the blood preserved, or maybe because it is the last place anyone would look when someone come to his house uninvited and go snooping around.
Dexter keeps these slides to remember the evil people that he killed in the past. It is an award of the good that he has done saving the innocent lives of future victims of these monsters. At times, this also a reminder for him of how he felt and the lessons he learned while he’s “taking out the trash.”
Now where will Dexter be without his tools? He stores them in a storage box with a hidden compartment. Like a treasure box of goodies, he meticulously arranges his shiny tools in order. This is Dexter’s kill kit. His kit comprises of sharp knives, electric saw, tranquillizer drugs, and different surgical tools.
Dexter always seems to keep his secret stay secret, and it always starts at home. Keep a tidy, evidence-free home and you will be fine.
